The University of Auckland offers two sets of programs in Linguistics, depending on your background and career interests. Students who wish to study Linguistics, can apply for either a Master of Arts in Linguistics or a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics. Both offer courses can be studied as either a one year or 18 month MA.
For students who have developed an interest in Linguistics through other Bachelor studies, this MA is open to you. You will be considered for the Master of Arts in Linguistics if you have prior studies in: Antropology, Cognative Science, Computer Science, Education, Languages, Maori Studies, Pacific Studies, Philosophy, Psychology. Within the Master of Arts in Linguistics, you will learn about language structure and use.
Students who have prior studies in a relevent bachelor degree – Language Teaching / TESOL, linguistics, can apply for a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics. This course focuses on real world language problems in language learning and education, drawing from the fields of; linguistics, psycholinguistics, second language acquisition, sociolinguitics and education.
