Andrez from New Zealand – In Nice, France
I left for Nice in the South of France in September 2022. My experience in the South of France has been unique, and I do have to say, when people say it’s beautiful, it really is beautiful.
I started off my adventure after procuring a working holiday visa and ended up in a language school called France Langue in the upper part of Nice. My time at the school was enjoyable. The classes were small and the teachers were lovely. The school itself like much of the rest of France, was in an old building. There were many different people from different cultures and from different parts of Europe which made it fun and easy to make friends. My class specifically had girls from Denmark, Sweden, South Africa and 2 Colombians which made it interesting as everyone had such different experiences to tell.
I highly recommend learning a little French before you go to language school as the classes can move pretty quick.
After school it was time to explore the region and the neighbouring cities. There is plenty to do in the sightseeing department with tons of museums, libraries, and historical monuments scattered across from head to toe. Not to mention, the BEACHES. WOW. If you like a good swim in the ocean, bright sunny days and beautiful blue skies, the South of France is for you. I think in the 3 months I’ve been here I can count the cloudy days on one hand. Being in Nice, can be daunting if you don’t live in the right area, as the trams and trains aren’t the most efficiently placed. So make sure if you do come here that you live close to the centre of the city. If you like pasta, Italy is a single train ride away as well.
All in all, I am really enjoying my time here in Nice, and would recommend it to anyone wanting to have a sunny experience and learn a bit of French along the way.
